What you’ll learn
- Confirm the correct job, vehicle and destination.
- Report observable defects and missing instructions.
- Prepare documents and safe communication before moving.
Useful terms
- Job brief
- The current instructions for your assigned movement.
- Hold
- A restriction awaiting the responsible person’s decision.
Step-by-step operating routine
Read the assigned job
Confirm pickup, destination, contact, goods and planned timing. Ask dispatch about missing or conflicting instructions. Ensure you are looking at the current job version and not an old screenshot.
Record or confirm- Job reference
- Pickup
- Destination
- Contact
- Current instruction
Check your vehicle and duty
Perform the trained pre-trip observations and report defects. Confirm you are fit for the duty and have the required licence and authorisation. Do not drive through an unresolved critical safety issue.
Record or confirm- Vehicle
- Observed defect
- Duty fitness
- Readiness decision
Check goods and loading instructions
Understand count, handling restrictions and the loading arrangement. Use trained staff for secure loading and required equipment. If the physical goods differ from the brief, record the difference and ask for review.
Record or confirm- Goods
- Count
- Handling
- Loading discrepancy
Prepare the document pack
Check that the papers refer to this consignment and actual vehicle. Know whom to contact if a required paper is missing or unreadable. Keep sensitive documents secure and available only for legitimate use.
Record or confirm- Booking papers
- Invoice / challan
- Required movement reference
- Contact
Prepare safe app use
Confirm you can access assigned work and know the offline limitations. Make updates while safely stopped. Agree a contact routine that does not require reading messages or interacting with the phone while driving.
Record or confirm- Assigned access
- Connectivity
- Safe update point
- Dispatch contact
A mismatch before departure
The driver’s brief names one receiver, but the printed document shows another site. The driver stops the departure process and asks dispatch to reconcile the instructions. The corrected version is recorded and shared before movement; the driver does not choose a destination by guesswork.
- Check the current job reference.
- Escalate conflicting instructions.
- Preserve the corrected version.
Exceptions and mistakes to avoid
- Do not share another driver’s login.
- Do not use the app while driving.
- A target departure time is never permission to ignore a safety hold.
Driver pre-trip sheet
Use factual observations. A reported problem remains open until the responsible person resolves it.
| Check | Observed result | Issue reported to | Decision / reference | Completed while stopped |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Document destination | Mismatch found | Dispatch | Corrected brief awaited | Yes |

Check your understanding
Try answering first, then open the explanation. Use the worksheet and source records to practise the task.
What should you do with conflicting destinations?
Stop the departure process and ask dispatch to reconcile and record the correct instructions.
Can the app’s assigned status override a critical defect?
No. Follow the safety restriction and authorised readiness process.
Put it to work with HiVAM
Use these connections to explore the relevant product workflows. Confirm access in your deployed release; API capabilities require an integration or an available interface.
Delivery quantities, document packs and offline replay
Open the actual assigned consignment and its supported document pack.
Inspection defects to repair work
Report defects through the confirmed deployed process; do not assume an API feature is visible in the driver app.
Official references and current requirements
These lessons explain operating discipline for Indian road goods transport. Confirm the exact legal, tax, employment or safety requirement with the current authority and a qualified adviser. Reference review is not legal certification.
